This two day workshop is designed for SEVIS Alternative/Responsible Officers who are at the Intermediate level of proficiency with a general understanding of the Exchange Visitor Program and SEVIS or who completed J-1 SEVIS Essentials – Level I. Day 1 — Thursday, June 9, 2022 – Student Program Implementation

Day 1 of the workshop will focus on the J-1 Exchange Student category and will address:
- Government issues
- Program administration
- Student sub-categories
- Selection process and criteria
- SEVIS and completion of the DS-2019 for a student
- Visa issues
- Pre and post arrival information
- Maintaining status
- Travel
- Extension
- Transfer
- Ending vs termination
- Change of status
- Correction of the record
- Student employment
Day 2 — Thursday, June 16, 2022 – Scholar Program Implementation
9:00 a.m. EST – 4:00 p.m. EST

Day 2 of this workshop will focus on the J-1 Scholar/Professor categories and will address:
- J-1 Program Administration
- Professor, Research Scholar, Short term Scholar and Specialist categories
- Differences among these categories
- Selection process and criteria
- 212e and Skills List
- 12 month and 24 month bars
- Pre and post arrival information
- Required orientation and insurance
- Maintaining status
- Travel
- Extension
- Transfer
- Occasional Lectures
- Correct the record and reinstatement
- Waivers
- J-2 dependent
- Annual report
- SEVIS and recent Version Updates
- Gray area issues implementing J programs and policies
- Update on Department of State issues
